'Food' and the politics behind its production and its consumption have been the most concerning engagement in my works. I was born into a family of tenant farmers. I was witness to the various struggles a tenant farmer undergoes at the mercy of the landlord, nature, and the economic decisions of the state right from childhood. Systematically and continuously the condition of the landless farmers has been let to lurch under the control of the landlord and the ruthless economic policies of the state.
The artist is the recipient of an array of awards and honours, including awards from the Gujarat State Lalit Kala Academy in 2000, and from the Western Region Camlin Art Foundation in 2001 and 2002. Art society of India in 2004 .
The tools, objects, and the setting of my work act as a metaphor for the exploitation of the tenant and landless farmers in particular.
