Vipul Prajapati born and brought up in Ahmedabad comes from a very humble family of farmers. His father Nagjibhai Prajapati is also an eminent artist, so art is in his genes. He certainly dreamt of being an artist and thus his journey began at a very tender age. He then studied painting from Sheth C N College of Fine Arts. He always had this nudge of thinking and doing things out of the box exploring and experimenting with materials. His work was always appreciated, he got his first State Lalit Kala award as a student in year 2005 and ever since that he hasn’t looked back. A very hardworking and dedicated for his creative instincts his vision was to make his own path which he did. His fascination for ships, ship workers and ship yards brought him closer to dig out the realities of a hardcore life that was thriving amidst all odds yet the zest for life was inevitably at the core. Initially working with oils and later with pencil his command over his materials reflects invariably though he does use technology but with his own vision creating a distinct characteristic of every work. In 2008 and 2009 his work got a national selection that set a benchmark for him. Later in 2016 he won the National Lalit Kala Akademi award for his drawing. He kept scaling heights through rigorous hard work, kept doing something new. Anslem Kiefer is one of the artists whose work Vipul greatly admires. His sense of material and the command over it is something Vipul tries to bring in his work. His carrier as an artist had started shaping in the right direction, year 2016 brought him a big breakthrough as he not only won the national award but also won the most prestigious International award, The Jackson Pollock’s Pollock and Kransner award. This brought him the real recognition as a young dedicated artist. Vipul’s aim is to create a niche for himself as an artist thereby pave his own path in the field of contemporary art. Recently in 2021he has been awarded with an Art’e Laguna prize – Venice.Vipul is now gradually moving ahead with his high aspirations and dedication as he strongly believes in what Anslem Kiefer said, ART IS LONGING, YOU NEVER ARRIVE BUT YOU KEEP GOING IN THE HOPE THAT YOU WILL.
