The primary concern in my work is expression through texture. I am fascinated by the accidental texture of walls around us– in our homes, or on the side of the road, or the withered exteriors of abandoned buildings.  For what I believe, just like humans, walls too carry within them their history. They are fancily painted, pestered even nailed.  They endure the rain, the dust, humidity and the harsh winter and yet again are repainted. With each coat their history gets concealed like some hidden identity and at the same time layering a new one on top of it. Sometimes through erosion and   damage the past reveals itself in parts, almost like an excavation giving a glimpse of its former life. The surface of the wall then becomes an interaction between the accidental and the intentional.

I try to replicate and recreate this interaction on the surface of my work –I work backwards, focussing on the accidental interplay of colours to create a surface. Using the abstract shapes and texture as a guide I transfer a realistic composition onto it to create the same interaction between the accidental and the intentional. Through this interaction I try to find deeper meaning, a sense of nostalgia, or just a fleeting glimpse of a childhood memory.
